CEO Holiday Greetings & Farewell

GSS Board Chair, Chad Ekdahl, presents Lorette Garrick, CEO, with a special award acknowledging her transformational 27 years of leadership.

As we close out another remarkable year at GSS, I find myself reflecting on all we’ve achieved together, the transitions ahead, and the exciting future awaiting the organization. This year has been particularly meaningful for me, as it marks not only an important leadership change but also the end of my own 27-year journey with GSS—a journey that has been nothing short of extraordinary.

With the upcoming shift in leadership, much of my focus has been on preparing the agency for this new chapter. I have every confidence that Dawn-Marie, our incoming CEO, will guide GSS with strength, vision, and heart. Her leadership perfectly aligns with our values and mission, and I have no doubt she will continue to build on all we’ve accomplished.

This past year has been filled with milestones that highlight the incredible work of our team. We launched the Recovery Housing First Team, a vital initiative that provides immediate, supportive housing for individuals navigating housing instability and substance use challenges. It’s a critical step in addressing these needs with compassion and effectiveness. We also were successful in our bid to operate the Holyrood program, which will allow us to deepen our connections to the community and expand the ways we provide support to people living with complex life circumstances. And after a few years of planning and much work, the Medically Supported Detox facility is finally moving closer to becoming a reality—a project that will save lives and fill a much-needed gap in care.

Looking back on my 27 years at Spady, I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude. When I started, I could never have imagined the growth and transformation we would achieve together. Today, GSS stands as a beacon of hope, offering a truly comprehensive continuum of services for some of our community’s most vulnerable individuals.

Our success has always been rooted in the dedication of our team, the unwavering support of our partners, and the resilience of those we serve. While I am excited about the next chapter of my life, stepping away from GSS feels bittersweet. This organization and the incredible people I’ve worked alongside have been such an integral part of my life. The relationships I’ve built and the impact we’ve made will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you for the trust, support, and collaboration you have shared with me over the years. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be part of this journey.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Lorette Garrick
