Our Beliefs and Values
The underlying value and foundation of the George Spady Society since we were established in 1983, is the sanctity of life. That foundation guides the following Belief Statements of our agency and services:
1. All people are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity.
2. All people deserve to have their basic needs met.
3. People with long-term substance related disorders and chronic mental health
issues are at risk of experiencing critical situations that jeopardize their health
and well-being, which can subsequently lead to illness and death.
4. People who may have difficulty surviving on their own due to chronic substance
abuse disorders, chronic mental health issues and long-term homelessness
require a broad array of services and supports that help them to:
Keep their hope alive
Meet their hygiene, nutrition and shelter needs
Reduce risks to their health and well-being
Develop and re-establish living skills that enhance their health, well-being, and personal fulfillment.
5. People have the ability to be self-reflective.
6. With the exception of people who pose a risk to themselves and/or others,
people must be allowed the opportunity to make their own decisions about
services and supports and the future direction of their lives.
