Countering COVID Burnout in 2022

We’re heading into a new year and the pandemic…

is still keeping us on our COVID toes and in our face masks. Here are 9 tips to help avoid coronavirus burnout as Santa isn’t bringing us a pandemic-free 2022 for Christmas. First developed a year ago, these tips are even more relevant now.

1.      Renew the commitment to making safe practices like wearing a mask, social distancing and handwashing a habit.

2.      Stay flexible as new information comes in about the virus and depend on reliable, trustworthy information sources for guidance.

3.      Stay informed but give yourself breaks from ongoing COVID headlines to enjoy an uplifting book or movie.

4.      Don’t build up hope that the pandemic will magically stop at an arbitrary deadline if predicted by some medical or political, etc., source.

5.      Exercise regularly! Even 5 minutes of aerobic exercise can help ease anxiety.

6.      Talk out your frustrations with a friend or professional to help manage those feelings.

7.      Think some positive thoughts to reduce stress by not focusing on doom and gloom.

8.      Put the proven mental and physical health benefits of mindfulness and gratitude to regular use.

9.      Give yourself a break. Self-compassion is a proven strategy that can help us not only get through tough times but thrive as we move forward.

In this season of giving, let’s share these tips to help ourselves, our families, co-workers, and program participants to stay strong—stronger than the COVID pandemic.
