Wedding Bells at George’s House?
George’s House staff do all they can to help their end-of-life clients re-connect to families. They’ve prepared special meals and had family members stay over. But this spring was the first time they hosted a wedding.
‘William’ came to George’s House from the hospital with a ‘failure to thrive’ diagnosis. He and his partner had a long-term on and off relationship complicated by substance use issues. But they remained committed to each other and wanted to acknowledge that commitment formally. So, with their granddaughters’ help, this April the happy couple exchanged marriage vows at George’s House.
The ceremony was performed by our own Richard Sanders, Mobile Harm Reduction Worker from CAT, who is an ordained minister. Other family members and George’s House clients and staff attended and the site doctor brought champagne. This was a truly special day for everyone. Since the wedding, William is doing so well that he may be transferred to a long-term care facility.
